Based on Monday’s training session Dunga looks set to play the following 11 players for Brazil’s opener tomorrow night against Mexico in Puerto Ordaz:
Maicon, Alex, Juan e Gilberto
Gilberto Silva, Mineiro, Elano e Diego
Robinho e Vágner Love
As expected new Chelsea man Alex starts in central defence and there is plenty of running and tackling in a midfield that includes Gilberto Silva, Mineiro and Elano. Diego and Robinho – both still relatively inexperienced at this level – will be expected to provide the magic in the absence of stars Kaká and Ronaldinho.
Vágner Love’s difficulty in finding the net in training means of all the players in this starting eleven he has the most to prove against the Mexicans. His performances in Dunga’s friendlies have not impressed many of Brazil’s fans and several commentators worry that if Robinho goes wandering off left to look for the ball – as he is wont to do – then Love could be left isolated up front.
