Argentina coach ‘Coco’ Basile is still flirting with the idea of dropping Cambiasso and starting Pablo Aimar alongside Verón and Riquelme in tomorrow’s opening game against the USA.
Aimar is a firm favourite of many Argentine fans but his international career has been hampered by injuries. But after a season at Real Zaragoza in which he stayed injury free and played some of his best football in years, his shining form in training has caused Basile to consider the ultra-creative option of Verón-Aimar-Riquelme playing behind Messi and Crespo. Argentina’s team for tomorrow’s opener:
Zanetti, Ayala, Gabriel Milito and Heinze
Verón, Mascherano and Cambiasso or Aimar
Messi and Crespo.
