Venezuela lets historic vicory slip from grasp

Hosts Venezuela let the chance of an historic Copa America victory slip from their grasp tonight, when they could only draw 2-2 with Bolivia, having twice taken the lead. The hosts can claim they were hard done by as the referee failed to award them two clear penalties but the Bolivians will feel they showed enough spirit and no little skill to have earned their point having twice drawn level, their second goal coming from the boot of Corinthians striker Arce in the 83rd minute.

Venezuela were attempting to win only their second Copa America game ever, with their only other victory having come as far back as 1967 when they beat tonight’s opponents 3-0.
