HT: Argentina 3-1 Colombia – Riquelme turns it on again

Once again Argentine went behind to an early goal. Once again Riquelme has lead the fightback. Whereas against the USA he set up three of his side’s four goals tonight he’s scored two himself by half-time. The first came from a perfectly timed run into the box to connect a downward header with a Zanetti cross. The second was a brilliant free-kick that will go straight onto the highlights reel.

Argentina are confirming not only their place in the quarter finals with this result, but the performance is marking them out as the most complete team in this Copa and the ones to beat – and watch. The only dark cloud was the withdrawal of Crespo who injured himself in scoring the penalty that drew Argentina level after an early Perea goal.

Colombia have it all to do in the second half if they are to avoid an early trip home.

If football is art, Riquelme is artist. He has great football skill and he showed it last night. I admire him a lot.
