Last Night’s Goals

Mexico 6-0 Paraguay:

Argentina 4-0 Peru:

Another 10 goals last night to go with the 12 from Saturday in what could be the biggest goals tally in the quarter-finals stage of a major tournament. Last night there were several more top strikes.

We’d like to pick one by the brilliant sub Carlitos Tevez, whose introduction at half-time against Peru turned the game. But his selflessness meant while involved in three of his side’s four goals he didn’t end up on the scoresheet. For goal of the game though we’ve picked the goal he wasn’t involved in – Argentina’s second. Messi nutmegged the keeper but the beauty of this goal is in Riquelme’s beautifully disguised diagonal pass which takes out four Peruvian defenders.
