Another opinion poll, this time on-line for Buenos Aires paper Infobae shows overwhelming backing for giving Carlos Tevez a starting place against Mexico. Coach Basile preferred to replace the injured Hernán Crespo with like-for-like Diego Milito for the game against Peru.
But Milito looked out of place among Argentina’s illustrious attack and it was only with the introduction of Tevez at half-time that the massed Peruvian defence was unpicked. Tevez helped set up three of the goals and also saw a header come back off the crossbar.
Not only does the poll show a preference for Tevez ahead of Milito but it also indicates that most fans would start him ahead of Crespo, were he available. Crespo scored three goals, injuring himself taking the third, a penalty against Colombia.
